ABOUT

Hey, I'm Julie

Write Nights came into being in 2020. Winter was looming, Scotland was locked down and I wanted to open up a warm, informal space to write through the isolation and the grimness.

My favourite part of Write Nights is when someone says "I don't know where this came from..." or "I"m not sure about this..." and then reads something powerful or moving.

People surprise themselves with what they can write in 20 minutes... but never underestimate your ability to create.

We've had poetry, prose, memoir, genre, lyrics, scripts, erotica and one particularly gruesome dinner party (fictional, thankfully). Write Nights isn't about perfection, it's all about joy.

I do it because I love hearing from everyone, I love the community that gets created, the connection that comes over the 5 weeks. Because it's temporary - it forms and then stops - it's a short journey (which can be repeated) - not a huge obligation.

I create really good, safe, open spaces for creativity.

It's proper soul food.
